Jarrow, 7 miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Bede (673/6 - 735) was in the monastery of St. Peter here from age 7 until his death. He was buried here, but the remains were translated to Durham Cathedral in the 11C. The adjacent parish church of St. Paul's has a mediaeval chair reputed to have been Bede's. [Timpson, p. 147] has a picture of it and notes that the Bede Industrial Estate is nearby!
