Research Interests

I am interested in combinatorial group theory and more generally in problems that combine algebra, number theory, and combinatorics. I am currently trying to extend ideas from my PhD work to a problem about automorphisms of Coxeter groups.

My PhD Thesis was about finite groups that have an automorphism that cyclically permutes a generating set for the group. A group with such an automorphism is said to be cyclically generated and a presentation on a cyclic generating set is called a generalized cyclic presentation because of the cyclic symmetry of the set of relators. As a natural extension of this work I also looked at the question of which finite abelian groups have a minimal cyclic generating set.

Teaching

I teach A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester.

As a postgraduate student (2001-2006) at the University of St Andrews I gave tutorials in 2nd year Algebra and Analysis, 1st year Pure and Applied Mathematics, 1st year Mathematics, and 1st year Introductory Mathematics. I also gave some lectures and tutorials for the Introductory Mathematics module provided by the English Language Teaching Centre.
